FAQs

What does a typical day with NASTC look like?

We start each day out meeting indoors at the resort.  On the first day of the course, there will be a short orientation/introduction meeting.  Typically by 9am we are out on the slopes and gather into our designated groups.  You will ski with your group and trainer for the whole day.  The morning tends to be more heavily focused on drills and exercises to help develop the appropriate movement patterns.  For lunch, the group tends to stick together and enjoy…

What type of skis should I bring?

This depends on what type of course you are participating in and what the weather is like. For most NASTC courses a mid-fat all-mountain ski is appropriate.  If there has been significant snowfall then a bringing a fatter or rockered ski would be a good choice.  When in doubt, bring the ski that you are most comfortable skiing on.

How much off-piste skiing will we do?

This depends on what type of course you are enrolled in and also what level skier you are.  In our Big Mountain & Powder skiing courses you can expect to do a lot of off-piste skiing, about 80%.  In the All Conditions/All Terrain courses, the amount of off-piste skiing that you will do depends on what skier level you are.  The terrain selection is based on the comfort level of the group.

If I am an intermediate skier, are these courses appropriate?

Yes, absolutely! These courses will be an integral tool in your advancement as a skier.  There are some courses where the terrain might be challenging and are better geared towards advanced skiers; the minimum skier level is noted on the course descriptions.

How do you group everyone?

Groups are organized according to skier level.  We try to group skiers according to similarity in ability level and goals.

How many skiers per group/course?

The maximum number of skiers per group that we strive for is 6.  Depending on the number of skiers enrolled in a course there can be anywhere from 2-4 groups out on the hill.  There is sometimes the rare occasion when numbers do not match up evenly and a group may have 7 skiers.  Some groups may have less than 4, this number depends on the number of skiers enrolled and the breakdown of levels.

Who takes our courses?

Skiers that enroll in a NASTC course are typically between the ages of 35-60.  They are students of the sport, keen on improving their technique and skiing more of the mountain.  They are professionals who enjoy adventure and meeting new people.

What Type of Skier Am I?

NASTC accepts skiers levels 6-9 or strong intermediates to expert skiers: A level 6 skier can ski all blue terrain and groomed black trails with a parallel stance A level 7 skier can ski all blue and groomed black terrain with a parallel stance but off-piste remains a challenge A level 8 Skier can ski all groomed black terrain with a parallel stance and some off-piste terrain including some steeps and bumps A level 9 skier can ski the majority…
