SKATE
TO SKI DRYLAND TRAINING
Remember all of those skiing techniques you were working so hard on
last winter to improve your turns? Now you can continue to train while
waiting for next season. This weekend will include in-line skating,
which is the best way to imitate the movement patterns of skiing while
still on dry land. The technique translates perfectly. It will also
include yoga, Pilates (a popular method with elite skiers that increases
core strength and balance), plyometrics (ski-specific exercises with
bongo boards, jump boxes, medicine balls, gym balls, etc. that build
power and agility), weights (i.e. proper nautilus routines), a hike,
and a ski equipment session. All of this is designed so that you can
be in your personal best ski-specific shape by the time the snow flies,
and thus ski a whole lot better! And that means more fun!
During this course we will
also visit The Center for Health & Sports Performance.
The exclusive partnership between NASTC and The Center has been developed
to provide you with the latest sports science technology used by elite
athletes. We have carefully designed a ski-specific on-snow/dryland
conditioning program to enhance and extend your ski performance. NASTC
coaches will work closely with a certified athletic trainer to identify
the weak points in your physiology that may be blocking you from achieving
your full potential. The Center’s human performance laboratory,
part of Tahoe Forest Hospital in Truckee, CA, will provide you with
biomechanical analysis, functional movement screening, physiologic testing,
nutrition consultations, physical therapy, training and coaching programs.
These services can establish an individualized training plan that will
ensure your success with NASTC instruction, decrease your injury potential,
and facilitate the achievement of your ski specific goals. You can come
to The Center on this dryland course with NASTC or we can set up a private
consultation.

First Time Beginner: Never put on inline skates or have only
a couple times, but does not know how to stop using a heal break.

use the heal brake, however it is not proficient. Can change direction
side to side somewhat. Can skate on flat paths and has never been on
a hill before.

some hills. Stops solid on flat terrain. Using a heal brake, but braking
on some hills can be challenging. Can turn right and left using an A-frame

or city skating. Comfortable on skates. Can stop using heal brake solidly.
May have more than one stopping technique. Can turn left and right with
a parallel turn and links turns. Comfortable on shallow to moderate
hills. Has a variety of other skating skills, may correctly practice
some ski technique on skates.

and city skating. Know at least the heal brake to stop and possibly

NASTC TRAINER COURSE
Designed to take the aspiring NASTC
trainer to a new level of skiing and teaching/guiding proficiency. First,
we would recommend that you enroll in one of NASTC's All Condition/All
Terrain courses. This way you can see through the eyes of a NASTC student
how encompassing the NASTC experience really is. It is also a way to
learn about the NASTC methodologies and systems. We would also recommend
that you enroll in one of NASTC's big mountain courses, like heli skiing
in Canada, as well as our avalanche certification class, and a wilderness
first responder course. After this initiation period we would place
you into NASTC courses as an assistant and then eventually move you
into a leader role. This course will follow a two year curriculum that
will give the NASTC aspirant trainer a fast track to top positions as
trainers and guides in the ski industry. Levels 9-10
Dates on going, call or email NASTC for details. 530-582-4772, ski@skiNASTC.com
