March Madness

30 Mar 2011, Posted by Ski NASTC in Latest News

What a Month!!  March kicked off with a super fun course at Crested Butte, where many NASTC veterans reunited for a week of great skiing and coaching with Chris Fellows and Nick Herrin.  The middle of the month brought the start of what ended up being a 10-day storm cycle – the biggest we have seen in a VERY long time!  The storm total brought about an average of 12ft, the overnight record was pretty close to 4ft.  The snowfall came at a rapid rate and made it difficult for some resorts to keep up.  The upper mountain at Squaw Valley, Sugar Bowl and Alpine Meadows remained closed for several days due to high avalanche danger, when they finally opened, the skiing was unreal!!  The Northstar All Conditions/All Terrain course lucked with perfect timing, it began at right at the end of the storm cycle, so the skiing was fantastic and the weather brought sunny blue skies to match the perfect snow.  Needless to say, the NASTC group skied themselves into the ground and logged in some serious mileage.  The final day wrapped up with the group sitting in the sun at the Overlook Bar, tired but with big smiles plastered across everyone’s face.
