THANK YOU for skiing & climbing with us 25 Years! ❄

19 Nov 2019, Posted by Ski NASTC in Latest News

THANK YOU for being part of the NASTC family all these years! It has been 25 years since we started NASTC in 1994, and we are grateful for almost 3 decades of skiing, climbing, and adventuring with you.The dream to start NASTC came from Chris and Jenny Fellows and the late Mike Sodergren. The idea was a total immersion ski school along the lines of the great Austrian and French Ski Instructor Academies where students immersed themselves for multiple days.

We started NASTC with 6 courses at 3 ski areas: Donner Ski Ranch, Sugar Bowl, and Whistler. Next we added Portillo and Kirkwood. With the help of countless individuals we kept trying to create the best high-performance ski school where true “students of the sport” could get the advanced training they sought and have the opportunity to experience greater adventure and excitement at mt ranges around the world. Mike lived to help plant the seeds, but tragically died with 17 others including his wife Mariam – another beloved Tahoe ski instructor – in a landslide in Thredbo, Australia in 1997.

In 2002 we founded our rock climbing school as well, with a mission to offer all ages and abilities climbers a fun chance to climb with the best guides on Donner Summit.  Rock climbing is the great equalizer: when you’re up off the ground, whether 5′ or 500′ of air beneath you, you have to be in the moment, you can neither look back nor forward. Kids are especially natural at climbing, both physically and mentally. Climbing is a great activity for parent/child, colleagues, or as an event activity.

NASTC now offers a rotation of 28 courses at 16 world-class resorts worldwide.  We draw from the top guns in the world of ski instruction – the teachers of teachers – the PhDs of ski pros.  We are so incredibly lucky to count these instructors and guides as our friends and colleagues. They’ve made a career teaching skiing and helping people truly improve and further enjoy their sport.

When you come to NASTC you don’t just “take a clinic” and leave.  You become part of a family, truly improve, and leave with a road towards further improvement.  You make life-long skiing friends who enjoy great camaraderie and stay in touch long after the course ends. Heck, we even take partial credit for a few marriages…love birds who met at NASTC!

So, again, our heartfelt thanks to you for being with us all these years. You are why we do what we do, and we hope to see you soon! Here’s to another 25 years of adventuring together!
