FIS Regulation Changes Are Not Welcomed With Open Arms

18 Oct 2011, Posted by Ski NASTC in Latest News

U.S World Cup racers have some pretty strong sentiments regarding the FIS changes to ski dimensions in the World Cup regulations.  At the start of the 2012-2013 season, FIS regulations will require racers to be on 40 meter radius ski, up from 27 meters.  FIS claims that the changes in ski length and dimensions is attempt to improve safety.  Many World Cup racers, lincluding Ted Ligety and Steve Nyman are opposed to the changes, they feel that these changes will regress…

It’s official!  Alpine Meadows and Squaw Valley are now one resort!  This means 6000+ acres of skiing and the start of what will likely be the best and biggest resort in the United States.  Season passes will be valid at either resort.  Plans for further development are on the table but will not happen this year.  The primary focus this year is to merge both resorts operations.  Will the merger also bring on a name change? Squalpine? Squaw Meadows? Alpine…

A Conversation with a Pro-Athlete

23 Sep 2011, Posted by Ski NASTC in Latest News

This is one of the many reasons why Portillo is so great and what makes it so special.  On any given night you can meet a number of interesting people and have the opportunity to sit down and have a meaningful conversation with them.  I had the opportunity to meet and have a chat with an ex-boxer.  One of the things that I took away from that conversation that is worth mentioning here is that, part of the physical preparation…

Anyone can be an Athlete

10 tips for being a ski athlete this season, by Chris Fellows

26 Aug 2011, Posted by Ski NASTC in Latest News

As director of the North American Ski Training Center and father of 3 active kids, I don’t have large chunks of time to spend in the gym.  However my skiing performance and fitness is important to me. By staying healthy and fit through out the season, I can provide my clients with solid skiing instruction and demonstrations and I can keep the wheels from coming off the cart mid-season due to overuse injuries, bad alignment, or illness due to lack of recovery time. Thanks…

Portillo Update

06 Aug 2011, Posted by Ski NASTC in Latest News

The mountain scenery is finally changing here in the high Andes.  We are officially snowed in!! It’s awesome!  Over a foot of snow fell last night and it is still snowing.  The road will remain closed for today and those guests that are “lucky” enough to still be here will get to enjoy the powder tomorrow when the storm breaks.  Portillo becomes a very different mountain when the snow level rises.  Lines that you once thought were unskiable suddenly become…
